This afternoon Lisa and I took Abi to see Mamma Mia at the Paramount Theater in Seattle.  Abi loves the film and has never seen the musical on stage so it was a treat for her.  Lisa and I have seen it a couple of times before (once in England and once here in Seattle) and it’s a really good show.  Abi loved it – had a blast.

When we left the theater it was lovely and sunny outside and with blue skies, so we went looking for something to shoot for today’s picture.  We drove over to the Space Needle as they are currently hanging a huge Angry Bird off the side to advertise the release of the Angry Birds Space game.

We parked up and took loads of shots.  I got the one below of the Space Needle and some lovely ones of Lisa and Abi with the Space Needle behind (but I’ll save those for another day).

Carter left school early to join the army and didn’t graduate from High School.  As a result he never got his GED. (That’s a General Educational Development certificate for any Brits reading this).  Well he has decided to do something about that and now spends time each day revising for his upcoming test.

Today was a really nice day.  Sunny and warm with a beautiful blue sky.  I left work quite late tonight and on the way home drove over to Grass Lawn Park to take some pictures.  The sun was just going down behind some trees and I found this great looking yurt in the park.  I positioned the camera so the sun was peeking through the trees and got a great shot of the yurt, with the sun behind and a great red sky.

Fortunately all the people in the park were behind me so none of them got in the image.  I walked around the park a little more but it was full of families and kids playing soccer and I’m not sure it’s a good idea to just start photographing kids playing in the park.

On the way home I drove through Fall City and Carnation but no other pictures grabbed me.  When I got home I checked out the yurt picture and it came out pretty well, so that’s my posting for today.

I had to buy a new XBox a couple of weeks ago and found the Halo guys tonight trying to break into the box to get the games console out!

Last night on the way home I went to Anderson Park in Redmond to shoot some more “Tree Socks”.  While there I took some pictures of some of the log cabins in the park.

I was walking round one of the cabins trying different compositions and saw this stone chimney.  I took some pictures as the wall was kind’a interesting and didn’t think much more of it.  When I got home I reviewed all the pictures and found this shot of the stone chimney against the wooden slats of the cabin looked really cool.

This is kind of an example of interesting textures.  The horizontal wooden logs that make up the cabins walls, against the siding that sits in the roof’s eves and the stone of the chimney go together to create, I think, a great image.

The sun was setting way off to the left and didn’t really affect the image directly, but it did add some great shadows on the cabin’s walls.  In post processing I boosted the saturation a little and warmed up the image, finally I added a vignette (or a vinegar as my 30 year old niece calls it) and the image was complete.

I now know why Carter was lifting weights last night.   He was prepping for his attempt at lion taming.

Last week I was going though a bit of a panic over my Picture a Day challenge.  I figured I was around 70 days in and I was running out of things to shoot.  Then I was driving home the other night and just figured I should stop complaining and just go out and take some pictures, and the result was some nice shots.  Tonight I continued my, “get out there with the camera” plan and took this shot of an Antique Refinishing Barn on the Redmond to Fall City road.

I’ve driven past this barn many times and considered stopping for a picture but the weather has been so drab I didn’t bother.  However tonight we had some blue sky so I figured it might be the time to grab a shot.

When I got there I pulled over on a side road and got the camera out.  I tried taking some shots from the road but they didn’t look very good.  So I checked nobody was around and ran onto the property and took the shot below.

There is kind of an ironic joke when you look at this image, I mean the company finishes antiques, yet the barn they do it in is falling apart!  I guess it’s like the old adage of a mechanic’s car is always falling apart.  Anyway I think it makes a really nice image.

Hopefully we have some nice weather this weekend and I can get out there and grab some more images.

Carter is continuing his efforts in learning everything circus!  Tonight it’s hoop spinning.

I think I’ve mentioned this before but something you are encouraged to do when your into photography is look around a lot.  Yeah I know that’s obvious but the premise is to look up and down and not just around you.

Anyway I was walking down 1st Avenue in Seattle and walked past the Lippy Building.  Now there’s nothing special about the building (at least I don’t think there is, I didn’t really check it out), but on the floor just outside the building is an amazing mosaic stating the buildings name.

I kind of walked over the mosaic, it caught my eye and went back to check it out.  I think it’s really cool so decided to take some pictures.  I love the way the mosaic also includes the companies inside – very cool.

I have an eight year old daughter and up until a couple of years ago she used to make me play this terrible game – Pretty Pretty Princess.  It basically involves you taking turns around a board putting on plastic jewelry.  Anyway Carter found the game and played it with Master Chief tonight.
