When I visited the Museum of Flight I was getting some great shots of the planes inside the museum but was getting some really nasty looks from the other people there with cameras who had neglected to bring a tripod. After an hour or so inside I decided to take a break and check out what was outside.

Right outside the museum was this Stratojet. While the plane looked pretty cool the sky above it was amazing. When I took the image I was thinking it would look pretty good in black and white, and as I haven’t posted a B&W picture yet, here you go.

The Halo guys were feeling a little romantic this evening and decided to light some candles…

Light the candle

So today is my first “use a picture from earlier in the year” posting.  I’m sure this will happen again soon.

I love this little plane, it’s in the corner of the big exhibit area at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. If memory serves me right this is a Chinese version of the MiG-15 and I love the big air intake at the front (I think that’s what it is). I like this shot as it shows the real benefit of HDR photography, you get a great shot of the inside of the room and the plane, but you can also see outside really well. Now our eyes do this all the time but the camera doesn’t have the dynamic range. So I think this is a cool image.

This is my favorite Halo shot to date.  I just looks so natural and real.

My Go

Today we went to the Museum of Flight in Boeing Field.

It’s a really cool day out and doesn’t cost too much – I’m not sure how they afford to keep the place going actually.  Anyway, I went in, camera in hand with a tripod and started shooting.  It was quite funny actually as there were loads of other photogs and they were giving me dirty looks as their clearly didn’t think they could bring in a tripod.

The museum has a number of exhibit areas, the largest of which is the main hall which is literally full of planes either on the floor or hanging from the ceiling.  One of the cooler (I think) areas is the war plane section.  It’s pretty dark in there so the tripod was a real necessity.  I was capturing images with exposure times of over a minute.

Today’s image is a Goodyear FG-1D Corsair.  It’s really cool with folded up wings and the colors in the room looked fab.

Dinner after the museum was at Claim Jumper where they have kids menu’s with cross word puzzles.  Hence the image below:
